Facts and pictures
With its kite-like body and wing structure and straightforward beak, the Pteranodon is a monster in the air built for speed. The Pteranodon is not a dinosaur, but a pterosaur. This academic difference does not seem to have hurt his reputation with dinosaur lovers, and the Pteranodon is often depicted alongside dinosaurs.
The Pteranodon lived along the Western Interior Seaway, an ocean channel that would eventually become dry land in western North America. It had a wing span of up to 20 feet and its flight pattern was probably similar to that of a large seabird. His diet included fish that may have led to a pronounced spear-skull and beak formation suitable for diving from high altitudes to catch a meal.
